Who's the Bully?

We can all empathise with a victim of bullying, and rightly so - but what about the bully?

Identifying the needs and difficulties being experienced by the bully are just as important. Early intervention may bring about support - sooner.

Happy Days creative resources can help young people identify and express difficulties sooner. Creative communication can assist support workers when assessing young people's broader needs.

Designed to support students who have faced challenges with emotional well-being and behaviour, a Lancashire Senior School reported that Happy Days creative resources helped to promote discussions with students who sometimes found it difficult to talk about the daily challenges they faced.

Mission Statement ... Resources for Early Intervention - Dementia - Young Carers

To be honest, I've been running around all week to meetings, networking, planning, initiating the development on an ipad app. 'An ipad app?' I hear you say, a questioning tone in your voices - Yes an ipad app or two or three, for people living with dementia, their families, friends and carers.

And in the middle of all these plans, I had a publishing workshop with colleagues on 'The Interview' ... the interview? Hmm ... well, yes, yes, er ... ahem ... During my many attempts to answer questions with direct answers, it appeared I and Happy Days were not well enough prepared and didn't have a specific Mission Statement either. In my head, I have an abundance of mission statements but pulling all those ideas together into one statement took some time, patience, focus and endless editing. So, here it is ...
Is this enough? Does it say everything in one statement? Is it interesting enough? Will it hook people in? Is it clear? Does it say exactly what Happy Days wants to achieve? Phew, I hope so - Any positive ideas or criticism are much appreciated - please let me know.

Happy Days Mission Statement:

Providing interactive creative resources, activities, materials to help professionals, support workers, carers & participants
improve self esteem and enhance well-being.

Memory boxes ... Happy Sharing Days

Memory boxes can be a pleasant way to interact with someone who is beginning to forget everyday topics of conversation. Triggering past memory is one way to prompt conversation, interaction and activity. Sharing past stories can help to create an enjoyable experience for all participants.

Happy Days memory boxes are supplied with attractive and useful accessories ~ but the idea is for you to help the person with dementia to collect special personal memories to store in the Happy Days memory box.

When relatives, visitors or carers call, the box can be re-visited to prompt conversation topics, reminiscence and happy experiences.

Grand-children can interact with grand-parents and find out about their past.
Visitors stuck for something to say can participate in reminiscence.
Find and replace items in the memory box to create new conversations.
Most of all, enjoy sharing special times with the person you love and care for.

Dementia and Hallucinations

I've been spending some amount of time expanding my Twitter connections. And yes, I'm openly admitting it. Honestly, I wasn't socialising or following celebrities but trying to make contact with Carers Centres, Care Homes, Carers and people caring for someone with dementia.

Last month, I spent a few weeks at a Day Centre for mature adults, elderly people who lived alone, people lacking full mobility, people with dementia. The stories from carers, wives, husbands, parents, pulled at heart strings.

The amount of information, stories, care studies and discussions etc. on the internet is phenomenal. I'm still researching and collecting information to use when designing new text and resources so if you have a story or something to share, please just let me know ...

I found this article on Dementia Today - a very informative piece.

Stay informed, Gillian.
