Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) often sleep during the day and are awake at night. The situation can turn life-threatening if they leave their homes and wander around outside. This irregular sleep schedule and night wandering, and the consequent burden on their caretakers, is a primary reason individuals with ADRD are placed in more controlled environments such as nursing homes. A new study from the Lighting Research Center (LRC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute lays the foundation for the importance of tailored light exposures as a viable treatment option for the reduction of sleep disturbances in older adults and those with ADRD ...

Founder of ‘Happy Days Publishing, writer of 'A Shared Journey' and dedicated to bringing the Happy Days projects to fruition, I am passionate about Creative Interactive Resources and Activities as a visual aid to help Children, Young People and Adults with personal, physical or emotional difficulties, identify, express and communicate their needs, wants and wishes in order to gain a more positive sense of self and greater sense of well-being.  Studying for a degree in English Literature and Linguistics and an MA in Creative Writing, I recognised the connection between writing and expressing emotion and how this may benefit people in the on-going-ness of life.   Always turning negatives into positives, I'm a firm believer that it's never too late to learn, re-learn or re-understand life around us.  I am interested in all types of Creative Art, particularly Writing and Drawing as a platform for self discovery and self expression; emotion, opinion, to support well-being, develop a sense of mastery and ownership.   Happy Days Interactive Activity Pages are based on my studies: Language and Power - Speech and Thought - Memory and Reminiscence; recalling past events and experiences to aid thought processes, prompt conversation and expression; instigate interaction and activity and positive outcomes. Exploration of behaviour theories and therapies, case-studies, social and emotional issues and continued research of all subject matter are at the core of Happy Days - Shared Journeys.  Passionate about bringing resources to benefit others, I relish in language change, metaphor, themed texture and colour which I use as a platform to face social, personal, contemporary and sensitive issues in a colourful, easy-to-use and enjoyable format.   I have co-organised Creative Writing workshops where I recognised that the materials I had developed were helping people express their needs, wants, wishes and hopes.  I am a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, an active member of two writing groups and write poetry.  Helping to make a difference is paramount to me.   It's not always what you write ~ it's what happens when you do.   Gillian email: happydayspublishing@yahoo.co.uk.
